Alaska is home to one of the smallest of all the Deer species in the United States. Due to the remote terrain it inhabits it is also one of the most difficult to hunt. In the summer and early Fall the bucks are spread throughout the range and are often found at higher elevations. As the days shorten and the temperatures drop the seasonal snows will move the bigger bucks back to lower elevations where they will begin to gather their harems in mid October for the coming breeding season. By the time the rut peaks, in mid November, many of the Deer are gathered in a narrow band of trees and shrubs that create a canopy of protection from the deeper snows that are advancing. These conditions are ideal and make for great Sitka Blacktail Deer Hunting. During the last several years the Blacktail Deer population on Kodiak Island and Afognak Island has been relatively stable and success is nearly assured. A nice trophy Blacktail Buck will normally have 3 or 4 points on each side and can weigh as much as 150 pounds. Some record book Deer have been taken recently in the area where the hunts are being conducted.

It has walk around decks and plenty of covered area to keep you out of the rain. Powered by twin diesels it is both safe and reliable with a cruising range of nearly three thousand miles. State of the art safety equipment includes self inflating Life Rafts, Emergency Locater Beacon, Satellite Phone, dual VHF Radios, SSB Radio, GPS Navigation Plotters, Radar, and fixed Firefighting Equipment. The vessel meets the standards of the United States Coast Guard and is operated by a Captain who is also licensed by the USCG. You will have your own bunk where you can sleep in comfort. The bathroom has a shower that provides plenty of hot water for showers after a hard day of hunting. The main solon is spacious with ample seating for your hunting party. Lounge about with coffee or a favorite beveridge while you are waiting for a dinner that is fit for a king. Keep your binoculars handy and look for wildlife like Brown Bear and Deer on the beaches. Our Sitka Blacktail Deer Hunt is normally limited to six hunters unless you book a corporate trip or have a larger group of friends that always want to hunt together. There is a fish hold for storing fish, hides, and game meat.

The hunts are relaxed and comfortable. Sometimes a nice Buck is seen from the boat and a skiff is put into the water and a stalk planned. Others prefer to take short day hikes and hunt creek bottoms or sit on stands over a meadow offering good forage. No matter what method of hunting you prefer or what weather you encounter you always know that you will be coming back to the boat for a hot shower and dry clothes. Then sit back and enjoy some appetizers and your favorite beverage while waiting for a dinner that is fit for a king. You will feast on fresh sea food, New York Steaks and chops, fresh vegetables and fruits, and nice desserts.
